“Trouble Don’t Last Always”
I heard this phrase more times than I can count growing up. I suppose I always knew what it meant, however I had not yet been introduced to enough of the experiences that came with it. Ones that actually embodied the phrase. At least not enough at that point.
Fortunately (or unfortunately depending on how you may see it) time has a way of adding up enough difficult moments in a persons life that they soon become keenly aware of what “trouble” means, and doing so specifically, for us as individuals. As a Pastor leader I have seen with regularity the hardships, difficulties, pain and suffering that people go through. Pretty much first hand. Trouble.
Trouble is sometimes described as something that causes “anxiety or stress”. I would say that is a pretty accurate description. I have heard heart wrenching stories of betrayal, mistrust, and lots of confusion. Day, after day, after day. I have seen anger in its most ugliest forms and I have to admit, sometimes its really difficult. By His grace I am constantly reminded by the Lord when listening to others brokenness, that what I am hearing, is likely never as difficult as ACTUALLY going through the hurt.
This has made me think much more deeply about how (or for what reason) the Lord allows struggles, in different ways, and for different persons. As I was not sure of how to further consider this delima, I decided that I might want to research it a bit more. So, I turned to the best source I knew for clarity. Yes, I opened my Bible.
I found an answer in the book of Romans.
In the Bible I was reminded that God has given each of us freedom and without getting into the full depth or weight of those freedoms, I wanted to be sure to state that nearly all freedom comes with obligation. In the case of the unbeliever, if a person lives this life all the way unto death clinging to their fallen nature, they will face eternal separation from the creator. A FATE TRULY WORSE THAN DEATH. Talk about troubles.
An interesting point here is what follows in Chapter 8 verses 12 through 17 (You may want to read them now). The bottom line is this. No matter what we are going through, we must never forget that we have a solution, a comforter, or even better at times, an advocate. The Spirit may not always assure us how long we will suffer, but He gives us assurance of our salvation. Look at verse 17. “And if children, also heirs, heirs of God and coheirs with Christ seeing that we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.”
I want you to STOP right now and ask the Lord to forgive you for ANY doubt about anything you have or may have had regarding His deliverance from your troubles. He knows what you are experiencing, and only He can PROPERLY get you through it. We must suffer with Him, and for Him, in order to Glorify Him. Period.
So take a look at your troubles right now, take a few deep breaths, and know this… they don’t last always. God loves us more than we will EVER know. Period.
Much love in Christ.
